KODIAK NEWS!
PLAYOFF GAME 7 - KODIAKS 2 VS PEACE RIVER 4
It's not over until it's over, as we saw. The Kodiaks outshot Peace River 16-7 in the first period, but couldn't find the back of the net and finished the period in a 1-1 tie. Leaving the door slightly open was enough to give Peace River a chance to shift the momentum and win the game which they deservedly outplayed the home team in the last two periods. This should provide the Kodiaks with enough incentive to win the final game on the road! Good Luck boys! Hillyers and Oslanski were the goal scorers, and a steady flow to the penalty box didn't help chances in the third playing most of it short-handed.

PLAYOFF GAME 6 - KODIAKS 5 VS PEACE RIVER 1
Peace River had nothing but a late goal as the Kodiaks systems dominated the game. With Matt Weaver scoring a pair of goals along with Jacobsen, Kitz and Oslanski, solid goaltending again was all that was needed to get the victory! Dylan Kitz continues to roll on the scoresheet and has stepped up his play in the latter part of the season! Let's see the brooms come out while the Fat Lady Sings on Sunday on the road to the Kodiaks second championship in 3 years!

PLAYOFF GAME 5 - KODIAKS 8 VS PEACE RIVER 3
Guhle makes some incredible saves in the second period to keep Peace River from mounting a comeback. With the Kodiaks mounting a 3-0 lead after the first period, the second was a different story. Physical play and puck pressure from the Royals, along with bad penalties by the Kodiaks put the boys back on their heals until Jacobsen gets a breakaway late in the 2nd. After a motivational speech in the dressing room, the Kodiaks came out to play in the 3rd to finish off the first game in a best of 5. Defense were huge on the scoreboard with both Dylan Kitz and Landon Oslanski getting a pair each. The usual offensive threats of Hillyers, Jacobsen, Heck and Johnson each scored, with Jacobsen capping the night off with 4 points.

PLAYOFF GAME 4 - KODIAKS 8 VS NE PANTHERS 0
With the top Panther out for a game for checking from behind, there was nothing they could do but try and intimidate and play dirty hockey as the Kodiaks rolled over them. Four Panther players were removed from the game for various incidence including butt-ends, kicking and skating straight from the bench and jumping Jewell. On a positive note, solid defence and goaltending were all that was needed to sweep the semi-final. Layton and Jacobsen both had a pair of goals, while Oslanski, Johnson, Reum and AP player Kushnerick added singles. OFF TO THE FINALS BOYS!!!!!

Scoring on the night were Oslanski, Jewell, Hillyers, Jacobsen, and Johnson, while JC Heck has become the set up man for the team getting 3 assists. Guhle held his own in net as the Kodiaks outshot the Panthers 42-25.

PLAYOFF GAME 2 - KODIAKS 7 VS LLOYDMINSTER 1 (Kodiaks with best of 3 series 2-0)
Another dismal night for the Bobcats with the Kodiaks advancing and ending their season. Again the Kodiaks were too much to handle outshooting Lloyd 51-17. Oslanski, Jewell and Layton each had 2 goals, with Johnson adding a single of his own. Special teams played a part tonight as the Kodiaks scored 2 PPG and 1 SHG, while the Bobcats lone goal was on the PP. Other than a lop-sided score board, there were more than a fair share of penalties for both teams.

PLAYOFF GAME 1 - SERIES 1 BEST OF 3 - KODIAKS 6 VS LLOYDMINSTER 1
A solid start to the playoffs for the Kodiaks. While outshooting the Bobcats 58-16, the only reason the game was as close as it was.....their goaltender. Scoring was shared equally throughout the night by the team with 6 different scorers: Oslanski, Jewell, Layton, Jacobsen, Heck and Johnson. Both Hillyers and AP Kushnerick stood out as the games best players. The only goal that Guhle couldn't handle was an odd man rush that the trailer defelected off one of our defenders hands. Series should be over Saturday in Lloyd.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 24 - KODIAKS 9 vs GRANDE PRAIRIE 5
The Kodiaks dominance in the league proved to point, as they finished the season with a 30-2-2 record. And speaking of dominance, it was fitting that the leagues leading scorer Adam Johnson, had 3 goal and a helper on the night. Not to be outdone, game star J.C. Heck had a pair of goals and dominated physically on the ice. Weaver, Hillyers, and Jacobsen added singles, while Spencer Jewell scored the day after being called up by the AJHL Kodiaks.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 23 - KODIAKS 13 vs GRANDE PRAIRIE 2
Down for the count in two bouts tonight. The Kodiaks strong offensive play left the Storm behind them in the main event, while AP Player Cole Tomazeski squared off successfully in his first RAMHL scrap. Adam Johnsons 2 goal and 2 assist effort earned him another game star, but Jordan Jacobsen matched that feat as well. Surpassing both 3rd year veterans on this night was Rookie Landon Oslanski with 3 goals and 2 assists which should move him into first place in the RAMHL Rookie Scoring race. Honorable mention goes out to both Matt Hillyers and Dylan Kitz with 3 points each as well.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 17 - KODIAKS 8 vs NE PANTHERS 1
Not much effort on the part of the Panthers today, especially with their steady flow to the penalty box. Layton potted the hat trick and a helper, but Matt Chenard was given the game star honors. Johnson continued his contributions with 2 goals and Hillyers, Jewell and Evans each added singles. Kitz has been on an offensive roll as of late and added 2 assists as did Oslanski and Jewell. Two final home games against last place Grande Prairie next weekend and it is into playoffs!

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 16 - KODIAKS 6 vs NE PANTHERS 2
Just what was expected, another physical contest! Not much scoring early as the Kodiaks were in a tight contest 1-1, but things broke open in the second finishing the period 5-1 with both a powerplay goal and a short-handed goal. Both teams exchanged a goal in the third along with some heavy hits and trash talk. Will we expect more in their final regular season contest and carry into a possible second round playoff match up? Johnson popped a pair tonight and singles were added by Jacobsen, Reum with a beauty, Tomazeski, and game star Matt Weaver! Kitz, Evans, Heck and Reum also each had 2 assists on the night!

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 3 - KODIAKS 5 vs NE PANTHERS 2
On this day the refs didn't have the same effect on the outcome of the game as the previous day. Though again it was a thriller for the fans in another physical bout. With the Kodiaks going up again 2-0, the Panthers fought back making it a 2-2 game leading into the 3rd period. Three goals in the third opened up the game which the Kodiaks outshot and outplayed the Panthers. The Panthers goaltender got the game star for the team. A great day again for the Kodiaks defense as Erickson and Chenard were in on the scoring. Jacobsen, Heck and Layton also scored for the Kodiaks with Heck also getting 3 assists and was selected as game star!

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2 - KODIAKS 5 vs NE PANTHERS 4 (OT)
What a barn burner in Cold Lake! The Kodiaks were quickly down 1-0, but got things going developing a 2 goal lead, but watched it disappear quickly in the third period after a goal was disallowed, the Panthers scoring their third on a blatent off side play, then the tieing goal was disallowed, then allowed. Johnson, Zwack, Majeski, and Kitz scored in regulation with Weaver scoring the OT Winner.

THURSDAY JANUARY 31 - KODIAKS 3 vs EDGE ACADEMY 4 (OT)
After again digging themselves a hole, a powerplay goal by Dillon Kitz made it 2-1 in the 2nd. A penalty shot was called and a nice goal was scored by the Calgary team. Down 3-1 in the third, Spencer Jewell and Adam Johnson stepped up to the plate to tie the game at 3-3. Sadly a penalty with less than 30 seconds left in the game put the Kodiaks squad short-handed which in overtime created a 4 on 3. After at what looked like a short-handed effort, the puck quickly exchanged hands and a goal was scored quickly on a 3 on 1 to end the game.

SUNDAY JANUARY 20 - KODIAKS 3 vs NEBC YUKON 2
Back to back victories for the Kodiaks against NEBC Yukon, but not without a challenge. After a big victory, the Camrose club came out flat. They did not look as smooth and polished a day after and found they were down 2-0 midway into the 2nd period before they finally scored making it 2-1 after 2. With the team beginning to play like they should they quickly made it a 2-2 game in the third. With minutes left a tick-tac-toe passing play sent Johnson in on a breakaway and slipped the puck 5-hole to put the Kodiaks up 3-2. Jewell's 3rd in two days and Cole Tomazeski's 2nd in two days capped the scoring. Guhle was in for the win again facing 20 shots.

SATURDAY JANUARY 19 - KODIAKS 9 vs NEBC YUKON 0
One of the best all round efforts of the year! After a team meeting Monday, the Kodiaks came out like they wanted to play 60 minutes of hockey and totally dominated the NEBC Yukon Trackers. Goal scorers on the night (which included 2 PPG and 2 SHG) were Jewell with 2, Layton with 2, and singles from Evans, Zwack, Jacobsen, Johnson and first time RAMHL goal scorer Cole Tomazeski! Not to be outshone by goal scorers, both Heck and Johnson added 3 helpers, and both Weaver and Reum added 2 each. Guhle was solid on the night getting his shutout facing 21 shots on the night. Game star was Jordan Jacobsen!

Kelowna Tim Hortons Tournament January 9 - 13, 2008
2008 Schedule Tournament Link With Schedule & Scoreboard
GAME 1 - January 9 - KODIAKS 3 vs Notre Dame Argos 4
After building a 2-0 lead with both goals from Spencer Jewell, Notre Dame chipped away and eventually tied it up. In the third a short-handed goal on a defensive give away along with the winner gave Notre Dame a 4-2 lead. Matt Weaver scored with just over 7 minutes left to give the Kodiaks a chance to get back into the game, but with Guhle pulled and the chances to score but no finish. Kodiaks now play the number one ranked team in their league tomorrow morning. Adam Johnson received the Kodiak game star.
GAME 2 - January 10 - Burlington Eagles 7 vs KODIAKS 2
Another slow start to the game as the Kodiaks were down 2-0 after the first 2 shifts. With a questionable high stick goal by the Eagles and a disallowed goal by the Kodiaks, the task to come back was even harder at 4-1. The Kodiaks out-played Burlington in the first period, but offence was lacking as the team eventually were down 7-1 and added a late goal. Spencer Jewell received game star for scoring both Kodiak goals.
GAME 3 - January 10 - 7:30 pm Colorado Thunderbirds 4 vs KODIAKS 2
Well, for a second game in one day, the Kodiaks gave up an early 2 goal lead to put them behind the 8-ball. But this time the team fought back to tie the game 2-2 after 2 periods with goals from Jacobsen (game star) and Evans. Unfortunately it was difficult mounting the charge from the penalty box. With 2 more goals from the Colorado team, and most of the period down 1 or 2 men in the box, time was not on our side. The game ended in a nice open-ice hit by Jewell, but sadly a Colorado player threatened him while in the box and then was attacked by the Colorado player while shaking hands. Too bad the game had to end with a Malay. On a positive note, Dawson Guhle played solid giving the Kodiaks every chance they could to win the game. And finally with the needed win to make the playoff round, the boys will be done early after making it to last years final against Juan de Fuca.
GAME 4 - January 11 - Seafair Islanders 0 vs KODIAKS 3
Shut-out for FRIESEN! Gee Willickers, the Kodiaks came to play today. Defense and physical play was great as the team put together their first win of the tournamament. Zwack scored a single while Jacobsen added one plus the empty netter. Seafairs goaltender was awarded game star as the Camrose team bombarded him with chance after chance. Scott Zwack was added to the list of game stars for the tournament.
GAME 5 - January 12 - KODIAKS 3 vs Kelowna Rockets 1
Another great win for the boys as Hillyers came out strong and scored on the first shift of the game. In a hard fought battle Kelowna scored on a powerplay making it a 1-1 tie until Johnson scored for the Kodiaks to go up for good. In the third we scored a gift with Hillyers flipping a high dump in that bounced in front of the goaltender and in the net. Great finish for the boys as they are on the long bus ride home leaving Kelowna in third place in their pool just missing the semi-final round.
CALGARY EDGE ACADEMY TOURNAMENT DECEMBER 28-30

GAME 1 - CAMROSE KODIAKS 1 vs Swift Current Legionnaires 2
Spencer Jewell scores a short-handed marker to match the Swift Currents short-handed marker when a 5 on 3 ended and the penalized player stepped out uncovered and went in on a break-away. A goal in the middle of the third was all that was needed to give Swift Current the win. This was the Kodiaks first taste of a physical team since PA, so tonight they will need to match Medicine Hats physical efforts.
GAME 2 - CAMROSE KODIAKS 4 - Medicine Hat Tigers 5
In a great game by both teams, a late goal put the Medicine Hat club ahead for good. With Landon Oslanski getting a pair, Adam Johnson and Spencer Jewell also added goals on the night. Solid effort by the boys, who now have to get up early to play the Edge first game of the day. A must win as only the top 4 of 5 teams advance to the semi-finals on Sunday.
GAME 3 - CAMROSE KODIAKS 3 - Edge Varsity 9
After a 0-0 first period, somebody wearing stripes decided it would be a good idea to give Johnson's entire line 10 minute misconducts, along with the edge line. After 8 minutes into the 2nd the Kodiaks were down 6-0. When the line-ups returned to normal, Hillyers scored a pair and Jewell added a single to match the Edge in the third. Final game tonight against LFA - Lake Forest Academy from Chicago.
GAME 4 - CAMROSE KODIAKS 0 - Lake Forest Academy Chicago 8
In the hockey world, being handed a silver platter just before New Years isn't great. With probably the best team the Kodiaks organization ever faced, the boys now have a goal to move towards. Foot speed and puck-handling were too much to handle on this day. The team now travels home without making the semi-finals in preparation for their next journey to the Kelowna Tim Horton's tournament January 9-13.
Sunday December 23 - KODIAKS 12 vs Ft. McMurray 3
The Kodiaks got back on track today, after a weak first period. Things really got rolling as the line of Oslanski, Heck and Layton racked up a total of 17 points!!!! And no, Oslanski won't become a permanent forward yet. Oslanski had the Hat Trick, and both Jewell and Reum scored a pair. Santa also brought goals for Layton, Erickson, Jacobsen, Heck and Tomazeski!

Saturday December 22 - KODIAKS 8 vs Ft. McMurray 7
Is getting back on a winning streak supposed to have a defensive side to the game? In a game that looked like the Oilers in the early 80's the Kodiaks squeeked one out with Oslanski scoring with only 4 seconds left in the game to pull out the victory. The big question was how could the Camrose squad outshoot the Baron's 51-24 and give up 7 goals on the night????? Busting out of some point slumps were Weaver with a goal and 2 helpers, Hillers with a pair of goals and a helper, Reum with a goal, and Layton with a goal and a helper. AJ didn't put the puck in the net tonight, but added 4 helpers. What will Sunday bring us? Maybe Santa could bring back that defensive side of the game the Kodiaks were so good at early in the season?

Slump???? A second loss strikes the standings boards as two leads disappeared in the 3rd when Peace River breaks open a 3-3 tie with 2 powerplay goals. Sunday December 16 - KODIAKS 1 at Edge Academy 4
Yes, it was sad but true.....the officials beat the Kodiaks, I mean the Kodiaks lost their first game of the season. Even our Captain was not allowed to talk to the referee without getting an unsporsmanlike conduct penalty. Despite outshooting the Calgary team 35-18, it was tough playing short-handed for the majority of the game. With Matt Hillyers scoring the lone Kodiaks goal, the only other highlight on the night was Head Coach Orcheski getting tossed for asking the referee to call a penalty on a player not wearing a neck guard.

The Midget Kodiaks finish up their 4 game year long series against Lloydminster this weekend with the 2nd of 2 victories. Josh Evans highlights the night with the Gordie Howe Hat Trick (2 goals, 1 penalty, and a fight) Tyrel Majeski celebrated his first RAMHL goal! Oslanski, Jacobsen and Layton also added singles. The Kodiaks worked hard on defensive systems and would have been happy with a 6-0 victory, but a lone PP marker by Lloyd changed that in the 3rd period.

After going up 1-0, the Kodiaks woke up in the 2nd period scoring 1 short-handed and 2 powerplay goals. Higlighting the night was Landon Oslanski scoring a hat trick and receiving game star honors, and yes....he was playing forward. Jordan Jacobsen had a solid night with 2 goals and an assist, AJ had 1 goal and 2 assists, and Tanner Erickson had 1 goal short-handed and 3 assists. Also highlighting the night was the return of Matt Hillyers, but most of his time was spent in the penalty box (31 minutes in penalties) and showering early after taking the challenge to scrap with a Lloyd player up for the task. AP Player Cody Stokowski also got his first physical challenge in the RAM handily winning his fight in front of his U16 teammates and also adding an assist.

Tonight's episode in Peace River is brought to you by the numbers 3 and 5. Hat's came onto the ice early with Weaver getting a hat trick, which was later followed by Jewell's. Evans, Jewell, Layton, and Johnson each recorded 5 points on the night. Dalton Reum made one of the greatest passes in hockey tonight, setting up Jacobsen for a goal and one of his 4 points. With Kitz and Majeski back in the line-up on defense, Peace River had a tough time getting onto the scoreboard. Sadly the game was called with just over 10 minutes remaining as a great night was overshadowed with Matt Weaver being taken off the ice in an ambulance after a vicious check to the neck by a Peace River player.

Goal Scorers on the night for the short benched Kodiaks were Evans, Oslanski, Jewell, Zwack, Layton, Johnson and Reum! Thursday November 21 - KODIAKS 7 vs Peace River 3
Great night for the fans to watch an exciting game! With Peace River moving up the standings it looked like it was going to be a barn burner. Kodiaks opened the game with the first goal, but Peace River showed they were here for the challenge by scoring the next 2 goals. Then five straight by the Kodiaks, and both teams matched markers in the third. Peace River Goaltender literally used his head to make a few saves in the third to keep it close. Adam Johnson continued his stellar play with his third game star in as many games! Tanner Erickson was big tonight as the only multiple goal player for the Kodiaks. The defense played a big part tonight collecting 5 points and holding the away team to 3 goals.

Sunday November 18 - KODIAKS 6 at Blazers 1
An almost copy of the previous game, with Lloyd getting the first goal again, it was all Camrose after that. Highlighted was Johnson's 2 goals and a scrap by Heck after the Blazers continued to taunt and harass him throughout the game. Kodiaks now go to a near perfect record of 13-0-1 for the year. Zwack, Layton, Heck and Lansing added markers for the Kodiaks while affiliate goaltender Dohaniuk recorded the win!

Saturday November 17 - KODIAKS 9 at Blazers 1
A wake up call early giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead was all that Camrose needed to wake up. In a game that was very chippy by the defending team, special teams added 3 pp goals and one sh again. Goal scorers on the night were Matt (Chara) Chenard, Layton, Evans, Johnson, a pair from Jacobsen and a pair from Weaver. And a special note scoring his first Major Midget Goal was Cody Stokowski!

Thursday November 14 - KODIAKS 4 at Polar Kings 1
Tonights game was brought to you by the letter H. H for horrible. Another win in the column, but wasn't pretty. Going down 1-0 early on a Polar King powerplay, left some work to do. If it wasn't for special teams, 2 powerplay and 1 short-handed goal, the outcome may not have been so great. Jewell and Erickson picked up single markers, while Adam Johnson got a pair on the night. Teamed up with Johnson on the night were Jacobsen and Hillyers each getting two assists. Again the Kodiaks significantly outshot the Polar Kings 52-13.

Sunday November 4 - KODIAKS 6 at Polar Kings 1
Going down 1-0 early at the hands of the Polar Kings Powerplay was enough to start the engines for the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks made it 1-1 after the first before blowing the game wide open. With four regulars out of the line-up, affiliates Stokowski, Tomezeski, Kushnerick and Wilson were great addtions on the night! Scoring 2 goal on the night along with 14 minutes in penalties was Matt Hillyers, also earning player of the game honors. Hillyers was also named RAMHL player of the month earlier in the week, congradulations MATT. Evans, Layton, Jacobsen and Heck also added goals, and top point getter on the night was Johnson with 4 assists. Friesen was stellar on the night letting the lone marker in and playing solid for the remainder of the game.

Sunday October 28 - KODIAKS 6 vs Ft. McMurray 2
With a few early bounces, the Kodiaks managed to get through the first period with a 2-2 tie. With the parade to the penalty box the remainder of the game, a second period short-handed goal and 3 more in the third gave the Kodiaks the win they needed. Though the Kodiaks finished the weekend with 3 of 4 points, the injury bug struck again with 4 upper body injuries which could leave the team short for a few weeks. Adam Johnson received game star with his goal, and Hillyers got back on track with 2 goals. Affiliate player from the Nordics, Danny Stollery, scored his first RAMHL goal.

Saturday October 27 - KODIAKS 2 vs Ft. McMurray 3 (OT)
As good as the game started, bounces didn't go the Kodiaks way on this night. Ft. McMurrays first goal bounced off the chest of one of our defenders then off the face mask of a Ft. Mc. Player and in the net. While outshooting Ft. McMurray 59 to 22, less than 15 seconds in overtime left was the goal that was needed to give the Kodiaks their first loss of the year. Watch out tomorrow when Camrose comes back for some vengance! Dawson Guhle along with the Ft. McMurray goaltender were highlighted by receiving game stars!

Saturday October 20 - KODIAKS 6 vs Wainwright 3
An ugly win on this night. The Kodiaks played one period of hockey in the 2nd, but manage to come out ahead with their 8th win in a row this season. Jacobsen potted a pair of goals and earned game star, while Josh Evans did more than his fair share with the Gordie Howe Hat Trick (2 goals, 1 penalty, and 1 fight!). It looks like there will be an emotional rivalry this year with the Polar Kings as the 3rd period kept the Referees busy.

Saturday October 13 - KODIAKS 3 vs Wainwright 0
Did I hear an echo? A repeat from the night before with Hillyers scoring a pair pair, along with a blast from the point from Dylan Kitz was enough again. Kitz was also the Kodiaks game star for the night. Will we have dueling goalies this year? Friesen was the shut-out winner on this day! Kodiaks still remain undefeated for the 07/08 year with their seventh win in a row.

Saturday October 13 - KODIAKS 3 vs Edge Academy 0
Another sniper like goal for a former defenseman named Hillyers as one of his pair, along with Johnsons opening game winning goal in the first period was all the offense the Kodiaks needed. With the second shut-out of the year, this one from Dawson Guhle, and a strong defensive effort in the 3rd giving up only 2 shots on net gave the Kodiaks the needed 60 minutes of hockey in a team effort for the win! Kodiaks remain undefeated for the 07/08 year.

October 7, 2007 - KODIAKS 21 vs SISEC Selects 4
Kudo's to the SISEC team for making efforts and playing the full 60 minutes. With only 10 players on the bench for the season, the Chestermere Academy team has an uphill battle for the year. On a second night in a row, 13 of 14 players again were in on the point totals again. Hillyers led the night with 5 goals and 3 assists, but the point total of 8 was equalled by Johnson with one goal and 7 assists. 6 players also contributed with a pair of goals each..Weaver, Fleck, Layton, Erickson, Jacobson and Lansing.

Matt Weaver was on fire tonight racking up 4 goals and 2 assists! Though another Matt (Hillyers) recorded just 1 goal and 1 assist, his opportunities on the night were numerous leading him to the nights game star! 13 of 14 player on the bench recorded at least 1 point on the night making it a true team effort. Additional multiple scorers on the team were AJ and Layton each with a pair. Stay tuned tomorrow as the Kodiaks will use the second game in the series to work on systems, puck control, and effort!
